During World War II, Allied forces considered dozens of cunning schemes aimed at hampering Adolf Hitler and the Axis powers. A new book has uncovered some of the more audacious plots considered, including a plan to slip the Führer female sex hormones.
In his new book, Professor Brian Ford reveals that British spies devised a plan to spike Hitler’s foods with doses of estrogen in hopes of toning down his aggression. The minds behind the feminization plot chose estrogen because the tasteless hormone’s slow and subtle effects would likely evade the notice of food testers.
"Their research had showed the importance of sex hormones - they were beginning to be used in sex therapy in London," Ford said. "There were agents who would be able to get it into his food - it would have been entirely possible."
Ford’s book, Secret Weapons: Technology, Science And The Race To Win World War II, also sheds light on other shelved Allied plans, including dropping glue and poisonous snakes on Nazi troops.
