Nothing raises the ire of an errant driver faster than being caught in the act by a traffic camera. Is it the cold, snap judgment of guilt you can’t wiggle out of or the frustration of not having anyone there to take out the frustration on? Whatever it is you might just want to grin and say thank you for the accidents that don’t happen when they’re around.
When Barcelona sought to cut the 12,000 accidents occurring every year on their beltways, they tried installing cameras to get people to put on the brakes. According to researchers, that technological policing prevented more than 500 injuries and saved a cool $9 million in damages and medical costs.
As Mom would say, "No one likes paying a ticket, but it beats paying with your life."
