If there’s one time of year when everyone appreciates a taste of classical choral music, it’s Christmas time, but if you’ve had enough of traditional tunes, it’s time to taste a selection off the album iTunes gave the top spot to in the classical vocal category, the Phoenix Chorale’s “Northern Lights: Choral Works by Ola Gjeilo.” Before you dismiss this music out of Phoenix as only being for the over-sixty crowd, though (and, therefore, understandably popular in a city that boasts a thriving snowbird population), the album’s composer Ola Gjeilo brings a breath of fresh, Norwegian air to our shores with Chandos’ best-selling album in the U.S. and mixes things up with the saxophone stylings of Ted Belledin and the talents of The Harrington String Quartet to accompany the Grammy-winning group. So, if there’s one album you download for the holiday party playlist this year, make it this one. All we are saying is give classical a chance. You’ll be glad you did. Full story at AZ Central. Opening new vistas in music. | | | | | | | | |
