Edible 'stop signs' remind us to eat less

By marking serving sizes with implicit—but edible—cues to stop eating, researchers report a reduction in the number of potato chips participants ate in a sitting.

“People generally eat what is put in front of them if it is palatable,” says Brian Wansink, director of the Food and Brand Lab at Cornell University.

“An increasing amount of research suggests that some people use visual indication—such as a clean plate or bottom of a bowl—to tell them when to stop eating.”
